Projects

Hussein Idris printed a model on the 3D printer that was intended to represent a mechanical barrier for the conservation of fish species in bodies of water, for example to protect them from hydroelectric power station (Wasserkraftwerken) and their turbines. The model serves as decoration and presentation of the project which was designed at that time.

Fabian used the laser cutter to make a wedding present for his friends. He used a cut to make the wood bend into a book.

Here are some projects that were cut with the lasercutter.

5.08.2023 Katharina used the laser cutter to cut parts for her master's thesis. She built a model to solve the problem of housing shortages in major German cities (e.g. Berlin).

A TAC board game was cut here. TAC is a tactical team game with simple rules where the aim is to get some marbles into the "house".

This Project was from David Meichel. A wall clock was cut and made with the laser cutter. Its hands were also cut out later, but on Plexiglas.

A Tock board game was cut here. Tock is a popular board game in Quebec, the Netherlands and Switzerland. It is based on Pachisi, but uses marbles instead of playing pieces and decks of cards instead of dice.

A member of the ecurie Aix team had two racing cars cut and engraved for a Christmas present. The racing cars are real designed racing cars, which the team is currently building in the student initiative.

Here an image was engraved by the laser cutter. The picture shows the town of Gouda in the Netherlands. For this purpose, dithering was used in the graphics program.

Martin Weil made a chess box for his nephew with chess pieces he had printed out himself.

Johannes cut a box that can later be used as lighting. The design is based on insider elements of his WG and was also given as a farewell gift when he moved out. At the back, Mario is hiding in his racing car as a sleigh.

Karolina cut her first model for her master's thesis in architecture. It was supposed to represent a district in Düsseldorf.

Rüdiger cut out circles that will help children later understand fractional calculation better.

Here are some projects that were realized with the 3D printer.

7.11.2023 Azur had his MRI scan of his shoulder bone printed out. He also had the outline of the Melaten campus and the UKA Aachen printed out. This was to be a gift for a friend who is studying medicine.

The Chair of Human-Machine Interaction is relaunching the iBOSS project and recreating the iBLOCKs concept. In the Fab Lab, Plexiglas and wooden panels were cut using the laser cutter and various modules were printed using the 3D printer. The focus was on the concept of docking two "blocks".

Two architecture students Nora Mohammed and Janina Rakipi from Aachen University of Applied Sciences designed an architecture project on the subject of the future and sustainability and modelled a model that uses the wind to the advantage of sustainability. They used the 3D printer to print the roof and the laser cutter for the entire model.
