Established Room Setups
In certain rooms it is not obvious how to set up your equipment. Here are the tips and tricks we established over time.
Seminar Room
Set up the Sony camera on a tripod in the back of the room near the window, and power it from the socket.
You will find an XLR cable there which transmits the audio from the speaker's microphone. You can plug that into the camera to record clean, synchronized audio. Set up the Zoom H1n in the front to capture the audience's questions; it can be clearer than what the camera records from the back.
Prefer to shut the curtains and turn on the lights, as the lighting outside can change drastically on cloudy days and overwhelm the projector. But consider your audience's comfort.
Prepare the wireless microphones and ensure that the loudspeakers are turned on.
Prepare the remote that controls the slide by checking the batteries and plugging its USB receiver into the speaker's laptop.
Don't forget to start the HDMI recorder.
Aula 2
Set up the Sony camera on a tripod to your right when you enter, near the power outlets. Grab the nearest table to put your equipment on, and power everything via a multiple socket.
On stage, set up the MacBook from the seminar room on the speaker stand and keep it close to the control board on the stage-left. Connect the stage's HDMI cable through the seminar room's HDMI recorder with the MacBook.
Get the headset microphone and sender from the safe under the table near the control board. (Ask the janitor for the safe's code.) Plug a long XML cable from the video cupboard into the control board's audio output and drag it along the edge of the room to the camera. This allows you to record clean, synchronized audio.
Set up the Zoom H1n on the overhead projector right in front of the stage to record the audience's questions. The audio from there can be clearer than what the camera records from the side.
Prefer to shut the curtains with the control board, if it's evening and the lighting might change.
Prepare the remote that controls the slide by checking the batteries and plugging its USB receiver into the speaker's laptop.
If the projector stays black, it might need to be power cycled. Ask the janitor for help.
Mobile Audio Setup
How to set up good audio wherever needed.
Equipment
- The two gray speakers from GENELEC
- The mix station EUROBACK UB802 from BEHRINGER
- A microphone from the seminar room with sender (a) and receiver (b)*
- A connector strip with at least four slots*
- Two power cords for the speakers
- One special power cord for the mix station
- One special power cord for the receiver*
- Two full batteries for the sender*
- Two large-audio-jack to XLR cables
- A normal XLR cable*
- A small-audio-jack to left/right-split cable
*not included in the Mobile Audio Setup box, because used in the seminar room or too large
Setup
- Connect the large-audio-jack to XLR cables (9) with the XLR side to the speakers (1) and position the speakers left and right. A larger distance between lecturer and speakers (1) reduces audio feedback.
- Connect the speakers to the mix station (2) by plugging the audio jack ends (9) in the corresponding MAIN OUT channel.
- Turn the MAIN MIX volume all the way down.
- Connect the speakers with power (5). Connect mix station with power (6). Sound output is done! Next is the Input.
- Connect the receiver (3a) with power (6). Connect receiver and mix station with the DMX-cable (10) using the MIC 1 channel. Turn the receiver on.
- Put fresh batteries in the sender (3b). Mute it and turn it on.
- If needed, connect the lecturers' laptop to the LINE IN 3/4 slots of the mix station, using the small-audio-jack to left/right-split cable (11).
- Now test the sound, and adjust microphone volume (LEVEL 1), laptop volume (LEVEL 3/4) and overall volume (using MAIN MIX).
