Zoom Setup, using the Sony FS5 II and a Lavaliere Microphone
Achieve good video quality for Zoom calls.
Camera
Using the Sony FS5 II and the Elgato Cam Link 4k.
First-time Setup
Put the Sony camera on the tripod, and position it close above the edge of the monitor. That makes it easy for the user to create the impression of eye contact.
Tip: It might help to extend one tripod leg to the maximum while extending the remaining two not completely. This way the camera can be placed closer to the table edge.
Connect the camera via HDMI to the Camlink.
Connect the Camlink via USB to the Computer.
Enable HDMI video output on the Camera in the menu (in the menu point with the two arrows).
Choose the Camlink as the video input device on your computer.
For each use
There are three basic areas where adjustment can be made to achieve good picture quality: Brightness, Focus and White balance. See also the video equipment guide.
Brightness: The picture brightness is impacted by multiple factors. Shutter speed (How long is a single frame exposed?), Iris (How big is the hole for the incoming light?), ISO (How much visual noise do I accept to get a brighter image?) and ND-Filter (Do I want my camera to wear sunglasses?)
Focus: It is recommended to use the manuell focus, to prevent the focus from alternating. The focus is not stored and must be set new every time the camera gets switched on.
White balance: The white balance is stored, but the lighting at your location might change over the day, depending on the light sources. A wrong white balance will impact the tint of the picture and people might expect tumbleweeds or penguins crossing in the background.
Audio
You need: the microphone sender and receiver, an XLR cable and the Steinberg UR22 mk2 audio interface.
Connect the receiver to power and turn it on.
Connect the receiver with the audio interface, using the XLR cable.
Connect the audio interface with the computer, via USB.
Attach the microphone on the collar of your t-shirt, as close to your mouth as possible. Directions are not that important for this type of mic.
Turn on the microphone (open the sender box for that). Make sure your batteries are charged.
