Aachen Horror: Experiments in Locative Gaming

Aachen Horror is a research project to explore the possibilities of locative (location-based) gaming on modern mobile devices. As part of the Aixplorer research project (2010 - 2013), we developed a proof-of-concept locative game to run on the Aixplorer device, our iPhone-based mobile city guide platform.

The archived Game Home Page introduces the story behind Aachen Horror, and includes concept art, sound effects, and user interface screenshots to get a feel for the mobile game.

The game itself is currently no longer under active development; our current working concept prototype with limited functionality is an iOS 8 app that communicates with a game server.
