Media Computing Project SS 2014 (Bonn)
Note: MCP will take place every Tuesday 15:00-17:00 starting April 8, 2014 until July 15, 2014 at the Mac lab in the B-IT building, Bonn.
Why
RWTH students use L2P rooms on daily basis. These rooms allow students to access course material from current and previous semesters. They also provide modules for submitting course assignments, creating student wikis, and discussing course issues. L2P 2013 is an updated version of the current L2P rooms. The new rooms come with a new interface and many new modules. Most notably, L2P rooms now host a new App Store for all mobile applications (Android and iOS) that are developed using L2P APIs.
This lab provides you the unique opportunity to work with L2P APIs to create new iOS apps that are customised for you and your colleagues. The lab offers you the foundation you need to start designing iOS apps using these RESTful APIs.
Your applications could become the next big thing among RWTH student apps.
What you will do
In MCP SS ’14, students will design simple mobile applications on iPhone devices. The applications will use L2P 2013 APIs to request and receive data from the L2P server.
What you will learn
After the course, you will understand the user-centered design cycle, prototyping, and several interaction techniques. You will understand the requirements and constraints of designing for a mobile device, get to know core iOS frameworks, and will be able to get your next idea up and running on an iPhone.
Note: We will provide you with iPhones if you don't own one.
Preferred student background
DIS1 (Designing Interactive Systems) is a prerequisite for this lab. The project will be evaluated based on usability heuristics presented in DIS1.
Knowledge in Objective-C and iOS programming will give you a big advantage in the project. Nevertheless, we will refresh them for you in class during the semester.
Hint: Mention your background and a link to your portfolio in the free text field in your application for the lab. This will increase the chance of being selected.
Assignments and Learning Material
You will find the course slides, references, and assignments in the L2P learning room.
