Ethics Policy for Courses Taught at i10

Our primary motivation for establishing this policy is to ensure that no student gains an unfair advantage over any other student when receiving credit for their work. It is not our intention to police students, nor to induce undue pressure on students.

Plagiarism

Plagiarism is using others’ ideas and words without clearly acknowledging the source of that information. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • submitting other students' work as your own
  • copying, verbatim or in rephrased form, text from other sources not created by yourself without proper references

We take plagiarism very seriously. Any student caught plagiarising is automatically expelled from the course, and blacklisted from taking any courses offered by our chair.

Cheating

In addition, no cheating of any form will be tolerated during examinations (midterms, and finals). This includes, but is not limited to:

  • using improper aids during examinations
  • inappropriate communication during a test

Any student caught cheating automatically receives zero credit for that examination, and may be expelled from the course at the discretion of the instructor (i.e., it will no longer be possible to receive credits for this course). A second violation results in automatic expulsion from the course, and the student is blacklisted from taking any courses taught by our chair.
