Participants, Incentives, and User Studies - A Survey of CHI 2019

By analyzing all papers published at CHI 2019, I have tried to give an overview of current practices within the HCI community regarding incentives in user studies. This overview could help researchers planning future studies. On the one hand, they could learn from the current practices and use them as an orientation. On the other hand, they could critically question whether they want to adhere to these practices in the future.

I manually extracted the data from each paper and saved it in a Google spreadsheet: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/102rfn_ElrLgzVfu2Rd1xat44-yIWNTn4hcO4pqlfFoo/edit#gid=0

I used a Jupyter notebook for the analysis. An insight into the notebook and an overview of the steps of my analysis can be found in the attachments.
