CHI Ranking Germany

Last update: CHI 2024

The Conference on Human Factors in Computing Systems (CHI) is the premier international annual conference in the research field of Human-Computer Interaction (HCI). Google Scholar lists it as the top HCI conference, and as the top publication venue across all conferences and journals in the field. Guide2Research lists it as one of the 10 most impactful conferences across all of Computer Science. Established in 1982, its acceptance rates for archival publications (CHI Papers and, in the past, CHI Notes) range from 15 to 25%. Publications at this conference are internationally regarded equal, if not superior to, publications in HCI journals (see Google Scholar or our list of ISI-ranked HCI journals), for example in tenure committees. The conference is organized by the non-profit Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), the largest and most influential institutional body for computer science researchers worldwide, and generally acknowledged to fund conferences of the highest standards in computer science. (Also check out Autodesk's visualization of CHI and UIST papers.)

For the ranking below, we search the official ACM Digital Library database, covering the proceedings (which, unlike the Extended Abstracts, include all and only the archival publication types of Papers and Notes), of all CHI conferences since 2003, and extract all archival publications (Papers and Notes) that feature at least one author affiliated with an institution in Germany. For the most current year, we use the CHI Online Advance Program sorted by affiliations when it is published, until the ACM Digital Library is updated to include that year. We use an automated script to extract the information from the ACM Digital Library online database, and for verification go through the final program for each conference manually to catch any omissions, e.g., due to differently spelled institution names or missing country entries.

The list shows all German research institutions with such publications, sorted alphabetically by location, with those that contributed the most archival publications during the period covered listed first.

We welcome your questions, comments, or corrections concerning the ranking; please contact the librarian. Of course, I assume responsibility for any remaining mistakes or omissions.
