A Pattern Approach to Interactive Design: Errata
Note: The changes below are not fixes of misprints (haven't found any so far! :), but correct two inconsistencies in the contents that have been pointed out to me (thanks!):- The formal pattern language model states that a pattern language should be a directed acyclic graph, but the HCI pattern language contains a back link that creates a cycle.
- The model also states that all links have the semantics of a reference, but the link from FLAT AND NARROW TREE to AUGMENTED REALITY has the semantics of a "see also" (sibling) connection.
p. 104: Remove arrow from ONE INPUT DEVICE to DOMAIN-APPROPRIATE DEVICES.
p. 104: Remove arrow from FLAT AND NARROW TREE to AUGMENTED REALITY.
p. 104: Add arrow from COOPERATIVE EXPERIENCE to AUGMENTED REALITY.
p. 104: Move AUGMENTED REALITY box up to the left of IMMERSIVE DISPLAY.
p. 119: Replace last ellipsis with "If you want to ensure that direct social communication between users is still possible, then instead of creating an entirely immersive virtual world, you may want to augment the real environment with your exhibit technology - AUGMENTED REALITY (H8).
p. 125: Replace last paragraph with "This is a basic pattern that has no further references within this pattern language."
p. 126: Replace first paragraph with "...you are designing an interactive exhibit which is supposed to be used by several people - COOPERATIVE EXPERIENCE (H3). You wish to support this cooperation by creating an environment that is not entirely virtual, but instead leaves room for direct social interaction.
p. 151: Replace last paragraph with "This is a basic pattern that has no further references within this pattern language."
