How to deal with waste from the lye bath

 This little guide is supposed to help you to deal with waste from the lye bath. If any questions remain you can always call the Abfallwirtschaft. I recommend to call them and only write mails, if you ask to receive specific items like "Gefahrzettel" from them. I usually called the Abteilungsleitung. They are really friendly and always try to help.

1. Check if the following is satisfied

1. There are plastic canisters with waste from the lye bath. They are usually below the table next to it. Do not fill/refill any canisters on your own, if you have not been taught how to do this.
2. The canisters are filled to a maximum of 90%. If a canister exceeds this limit, talk to your supervisor. The Abfallwirtschaft will not take any such canisters with them.

2. Check availability of requirements

Open the lowest drawer in the first room of the Fab Lab.

You need the following components:

1x Entsorgunsantrag
1x Gefahrzettel Nr. 8 (per canister)
1x Klebeumschlag (per canister)
1x Etiket Lauge (per canister). If the link does not work, go to the page for the Gefahrgutetiketten and search for "UN 1719" or "Abfallschüssel 20 01 15". Chose the label that matches the one on the lye bath.

If anything except the latter is missing, write a mail to the Abfallwirtschaft (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) and request what you need and the amount needed. Usually they do not reply to such mails, but you will receive everything within a few the days. If you do not receive anything within a week, call them.

3. Labeling

Label the canisters according to the following steps:

1. Put the sticker ("Gefahrzettel") on the placeholders on the sheet
2. Enter "Natriumhydroxid" below "Abfall enthält"
3. Enter your name below "Verpacker" (or the name of the person who filled the canisters)
4. Go to the secretary and get a stamp below "Absender"
5. Put the sheet in one of the sticky envelopes
6. Stick the envelope onto the canister

4. Complete the Entsorgungsantrag

Fill the first row of the Entsorgungsantrag as follows:

• "Behältervolumen [Liter]": 10
• "Abfallschüssel": 20 01 15
• "Bezeichnung des Stoffes": Natriumhydroxid + Wasser
• "Verpackung": A

Put the number of canisters in "Anzahl" and copy that value to "Benötigte Behälter".

Enter the following at the bottom of the Entsorgungsantrag:

• "Telefon": 0241-8021051
• "Adresse": Ahornstraße 55
• "Gebäudenummer": 2350
• "Raumnummer": 2213

Enter your name in the field "Antragsteller/in" and your mail in the field "Email".

Take the Entsorgunsantrag to the secretary and make sure, that they put a stamp on it. Now it has to be signed and send to the Abfallwirtschaft, which is handled by our secretary. You will receive a mail from the Aballwirtschaft containing the date and time for their arrival. As soon as you receive that mail talk to your supervisor.
