Labeling guide for Fab Lab inventory

  • Use Dymo D1 tape inside a Dymo LabelWriter Duo and the Dymo app on a Mac
  • Always use Helvetica font

Transparent boxes on shelves:

  • White 24mm tape
  • Helvetica Bold, Auto-Fit font size, centered
  • Only 1 line of text per label

Red open plastic boxes for electronics parts:

  • White 24mm tape
  • Helvetica 10 pt
  • Auto-Fit = "None"
  • Horizontal alignment = "Center Block"
  • Vertical alignment = "Top"
  • Length = "Fixed" 6,5 cm
  • Line 1: type of part (e.g., Transistor) and short ID (e.g., BC 547 C) (bold)
  • Line 2: manufacturer's part number and/or details (e.g., max. voltage & current) (regular)
  • Line 3: Dealer short name (Co for Conrad, Re for Reichelt, RS for RS Components), order number, and inventory (e.g., 10x) (regular)
  • Stick on the inside back wall of the box, near the top

SMD boxes (30mm wide):

  • White 24mm tape
  • Helvetica 9 pt
  • Auto-Fit = "None"
  • Horizontal alignment = "Center Block"
  • Vertical alignment = "Middle"
  • Length = "Fixed" 6 cm (cut to fit after sticking it on)
  • Line 1: Type of part and short ID (bold)
  • Line 2: Part ID (bold)
  • Line 3: manufacturer's part number and/or details (e.g., max. voltage & current) (regular)
  • Line 4: Dealer short name (Co for Conrad, Re for Reichelt, RS for RS Components), order number, and inventory (e.g., 10x) (regular)
  • Stick on upper end of the transparent lid, then cut off sides to fit
