AMM #184: A Rainy Evening

This month's Aachen Maker Meetup took place on a rainy evening, so we had a smaller crowd and fewer projects than usual. Still, there was plenty to discover, from laser-cut models and custom electronics to model railways and retro gaming.

Helge brought a laser-cut model of a radio tower loosely inspired by the Langenberg transmission tower. The structure is made from plexiglass and held together using dichloromethane. The tower also contains blinking LEDs, powered and controlled using simple electronics.

Birgit brought a small digital dice project triggered by a capacitive touch sensor. She also showed the beginning stages of a mirror cabinet, which creates some interesting reflections depending on where you look.

Friedemann brought a custom motor controller board for his boat project, which we might get to see at a future meetup. The board combines the control logic and motor drivers into a single custom-designed PCB.

Torsten brought some additions for his model train display shelf. He designed and 3D printed display rails, as well as a template to help build the wooden shelf.

Jan once again brought his ZX Spectrum Next, this time paired with a CRT monitor for the full retro computing experience. Together with the game Captain Square Jaw, it gave us another chance to enjoy some retro gaming.
