Evaluation of Prototpye:

Without User:

Task List:

Each member has to go through all of the screens and path flows of the ‘friend forever’ prototype keeping in mind the nine Golden Rules.

Evaluation:

All the four members in our group were there to test the prototype design individually as GUI designers. We prepared one page document describing the overall task list for each user. The 9 Golden rules were the heuristic list for each of these designers to evaluate. These are the collective observations we got duration this evaluation process:

1) We need to design some kind of progress bar at the end of full initial setup process. It is possible that it may take more than one second to prepare and suggest a full diet and exercise plan to user so for feedback and better responsiveness that was recommended that we should design a progress bar. This solution leads us to a better feedback and responsiveness of the prototype design.

2) There were a number of places where we labeled the technical terms in GUI. So all the labels that could be thought out of the scope of user language were replaced. Speaking the user language was missing.

3) In Personal Information screen lack of consistency was observed. In through out our application we used OK and Cancel buttons in such a way that OK appeared on right side of screen and Cancel was not left. In Personal Information Screen it was not as the pattern followed in other screen. So we updated it accordingly. In initial Welcome screen there was a button OK which was not required and presented no functionality. So that was removed eventually.

With User:

Task List:

We asked user to perform two basic tasks:

1) Set up the application (means configuring). This task involves a complete walk through all the initial steps of the prototype application.

2) Check for the emergency treatment.

Evaluation:

We selected two users, Sufian and Christiana, for the think aloud testing. These were the same users as we have been visiting before, so there was no need to collect information to prepare the profile. We inform both of the users about the evaluation process in detail and let them know about the prototype application we had prepared. We provided users with a simple one page tasks list document to help them about what they actually were required to do through out the test process. Users were asked to go through the prototype application and say aloud the state, goal and actions they were performing through the whole evaluation. Through out the evaluation process we did not disturb the users in terms of explaining or guiding them. We started the application for them and they had to perform the task listed in the task list. These are the observations we got duration this evaluation process:

1) During the initial setup phase, Sufian was a little annoyed with the fact that he can’t go back to previous screen. That was a real necessity and we included it.

2) During the initial setup phase, Christiana was thinking that she was going through a wizard while we never thought that it could be perceived as wizard. Sufian, the other user, also did not perceive it as a wizard. This setup process can be thought as a number of steps which may or may not be related to each other, means every coming step was not necessarily dependent on the previous step.

Over all Change Log after the evaluation:

1) Included progress bar. (Feedback and Responsiveness)

2) Included Back button in initial setup screens. (Avoid error, help to recover)

3) OK and Cancel button consistency. (Consistency)

4) Made sure that the user language was used in all the screens. It was not there before this evaluation. (Speack user language)
