The Instrument

Squeeze-A-Tune is a new input device for creating music with the help of a computer. It is a flexible, cylindrical device that produces sound when it is pressed or bent. Users can used it to play a song, create some experimental musics or just have fun playing around with it.

Squeeze-A-Tune has four sensors along the device to control volume and timbre. User can simply control them by pressing and bending the device. Moreover, it has four buttons to play notes. A combination of pressing buttons and Sqwueezing or bending the device allows the user to play a song.

Tasks Accomplished

  1. Developing a new instrument that doesn't already exist, is not too dull, and not too difficult to implement.
  2. Finding the right material for the instrument.
  3. Building it.
  4. Writing the software to produce sound.
  5. Exploring different ways to use the instrument.
  6. Learning to play it (still working on this one :-) ).
