Nur Al-huda Hamdan, M.Sc.Research Assistant
|
I am research assistant and PhD candidate at RWTH Aachen University, Germany. I work with Jan Borchers in the Media Computing and Human-Computer Interaction Group. I have a master's degree in computer science from the same university and a bachelor's degree in computer engineering from University of Jordan. My research is in the field of HCI, more specifically interactive textiles. I design, build, and evaluate textile-based interfaces as well as interactive fabrication tools to help end users develop their own versions of soft circuits.
In my (non-existing) free time I am an editor for ACM's XRDS magazine and a social media activist.
Projects
Run&Tap an empirical investigation of on-body tapping as an input technique for runners. - Run&Tap: An Investigation of On-Body Tapping for Runners. "In ISS '17" - (read more)
Grabbing at an Angle a two-dimensional textile sensor capable of detecting folding angles using Random Forest algorithm. - Grabbing at An Angle: Menu Selection for Fabric Interfaces. In ISWC '17 (read more)
Garbrics is a resistive textile sensor that can detect how it's being fold. Grabrics is part of a larger project Intuitex. - Grabrics: A Foldable Two-Dimensional Textile Input Controller. In CHI '16 EA (read more)
Physical Search is a project to develop "Google Maps" for physical objects in complex 3D containers and structures. - Presentation Strategies for Micro-Navigation in the Physical World. In CHI '16 EA (read more)
Mastery Interfaces is a student project to design user interfaces for teaching manual skills, the "MOOC" for craftsmanship. But unlike MOOC, we look into 3D visulaizations and holo displays to reveal hidden performance parameters (e.g., pressure profile, arm and shoulder motion) which are had to detect in video tutorials. - We developed a workflow to capture a knife sharpening skill using the vicon system, convert motion to technical gestures, detect performance errors, and provide visual feedback. (read more)
Conceptual Framework for Surface Manager on Interactive Tabletops is a framework to help designers map people's physical table activities to the tabletop domain. - Conceptual Framework for Surface Manager on Interactive Tabletops. In CHI '13 EA (read more)
A Surface Manager for Interactive Tabletops is a window system and UI toolkit developed for public interactive tabletops. Surface Manager supports multi-tasking for co-located users. It uses heuristics (location, timestamp, previous and current activity) to identify unique users and provided each with his/her own instance of the manager. (read more)
Counter Entropy House is a multidisciplinary university project. Teams from architecture, electrical engineering, and computer science designed and built a smart house that works solely on solar energy. We participated in Solar Decathlon Europe Competition 2012 and won the 5th place. (read more) |
